Apple to Start Selling Unblocked iPhone

The Apple iPhone will now be available unlocked when purchased through the company’s online store. The phone itself features a few pretty cool features with the standout trick being the fingerprint scanner, whether that has made it so popular or not is debatable. There were in fact many reports of errors with the scanner and that those would make the device be hard to get your hands on, and Apple appeared to have some issues with getting them to suppliers with the longest wait time around 4 weeks. This led to unlocked iPhone s not being offered in either retail outlets or online.

However this week Apple did deliver, the news that is, that unlocked iPhone S would now be available to US customers in 3 different colors for a starting price of $649 for the 16GB model. There will however be a wait for delivery of between 1 and 2 weeks. The appeal of the unlocked phone is of course that it comes with all iPhone S features except for the contract commitment and the phone can be activated on AT&T or T Mobile by inserting a nano SIM into the headset. The real benefit of the phone can be seen when travelling as any carriers SIM card may be purchased locally and will work in the phone.

Many people argue that unlocked phones are now the way to go and tying yourself into a long term contract while may be beneficial in the outset, i.e you will get the locked phone for free, or at least with a relatively small down payment, however over a period of time the benefits of the unlocked phone simply offer you so much more flexibility rather than paying a monthly fixed fee, especially if your monthly use isn’t actually that much. The free talk minutes, messages etc are, after all, only a great plus point if you actually use them, and the plain fact is that not everyone does.
